Adrian A. Basora
Ambassador Adrian A. Basora will describe democracy’s regression around the world since 2005, put this trend into historical context, and discuss the potential for an eventual return to the democratic advances that followed the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Ambassador Basora is a Trustee of the Foreign Policy Research Institute and Co-Chairman of its Eurasia Program and the Project on Democratic Transitions. He served as US Ambassador in Prague and worked closely with Czech and Slovak leaders during their transitions to democracy. Prior to that, he had served at the National Security Council where he helped design the US programs of support for the post-communist transitions to democracy. Basora is the principal author of the book Does Democracy Matter? The United States and Global Democracy Support. His earlier Foreign Service career included assignments in Latin America, Romania, France and Spain, and at the State Department. He currently resides in Walpole, NH.
